'I wish I had a little thing on my computer that just replaced the word 'woke' with 'treating people with respect' —Neil Gaiman

Here you go, @neilhimself a little chrome extension I wrote that does just that. It's an excellent reminder.

Woke = Respect

'I wish I had a little thing on my computer that just replaced the word 'woke' with 'treating people with respect' —Neil Gaiman

@brianfit I'd like to use your repo as a starting point for a more generalized tool that would use LLMs to recognize manipulative content and give users options about what to do (e.g. popups or in-text substitutions, etc.). Since people can have strong opinions about LLMs, I though I'd ask permission first.
@philfeld I'm good with that, thanks for asking. And curious to see result!
@brianfit @neilhimself @davidaugust Excellent! Can you please make one that replaces “the economy” with “rich people’s yacht money”?

@nathandh @neilhimself @davidaugust

Not precisely what your asking, but in a similar vein, I made one ages ago for a group advocating for fair tax payments from the rich which substituted "taxes" with "social contributions." "GOP warns Dems will increase social contributions."

@brianfit @neilhimself @davidaugust Love this so much. Almost wish there were a “meta” extension builder that allowed people to input whatever replacement text they wanted and it would generate the extension 😆

@nathandh @neilhimself @davidaugust

Would not be hard to code up, but the tricky bit is English often presents grammatical gotchas that make one-to-one substitution clunky. I had to use the extension for a couple months before I had a descent replacement table that made grammatical sense.

@brianfit @neilhimself cool! But please stop promoting google chrome. It is one of the main tools google uses for monopolizing the Internet and not good for humanity. You can use firefox instead.
@brianfit @neilhimself You can treat people with respect and still be not “woke”, with all aspects it includes.
@brianfit @neilhimself “Considerate” is how I’ve been translating woke. “Respectful” works as well.
@brianfit @neilhimself I love Neil Gaiman he's so based
@brianfit @neilhimself I tend to mentally translate "is woke" to its semantic equivalent, "has cooties."
@brianfit @neilhimself Two days ago I treating people with respect up at 4am and couldn't go back to sleep.
@brianfit Great!
I would add 'treating people and environment with respect'...
... and the possibility to remotely install it on selected people's computers.

@brianfit @neilhimself
Thank you so much for creating this awesome plugin. 😄

And incidentally allowing me to give Neil a follow. 😜

@brianfit @neilhimself I try to remind older folks crying about "PC bullshit" that PC is just politeness. It's reviled by bigots because it's politeness directed at oppressed minorities.
@brianfit @neilhimself Deciding who will decide what language to use and what words mean what? We’re going to do it with the blog-o-sphere rather than warfare? It’s been a whole month and the surplus bodies aren’t infantry OR influencers yet.

@brianfit @neilhimself

I just installed this for shits and giggles, and the news is now hilarious and way more accurate.

"GOP decries respect for other people agenda."
"Anti-respect for other people movement rallies against school board."
And so on.

Well done.
