#LevelDesign notes on how to introduce a PUSH mechanics in a #sidescroller... Do you know other #platformer games | should study ?

games that proved not to have any PUSH: Aladdin (SNES), Zool, CoolSpot (although that one has an animation for it)

And the games based on PUNCHing or THROWing where I did not expect any pushing to happen:
Donkey Kong Country, Duke Nukem II, Prehistorik II, Rayman

I did find some PUSH times in Bubsy, fairly late in the game (level 7) and completely optional (although highly rewarding)
I've been pointed to PUSH-to-find-secret in #Milon'sSecretCastle, which I believe to be inspired by #TowerOfDruaga. This is an almost perfect description of how your push mechanics should work if you want it to be a super-secret feature similar to DPAD codes in FEZ ...
I've found push puzzles in #MickeyMania, as well. Unsure how players did react to that without a strategy guide ...
I still have to find PUSH examples in SMB2, M.C. Kids and Duck Tales.
None of them in SuperFrog nor in SoccerKid.
Found a pushable canon in #AreoTheAcroBat, as early as level 1 and used to find a key in level 2
but none in Monster World IV despite the impressive spritesheet for the main character.
None in Twinbee Rainbow Bell Adventure either...
But some push is present in #ArdyLightfoot. You'll even see the character do it himself in the "prologue" demo presenting the characters of the game. Note that it is also possible to skip pushing if you're comfortable enough with the controls. (picture from https://randomhoohaas.flyingomelette.com/shr/ardy/)
ARDY LIGHTFOOT .:. beta

you get more of them with mandatory interaction in the pyramid level (https://youtu.be/W5-laypyokA?feature=shared&t=491) note how they can be both PUSHed and PULLed. And ironically, how the "remember: this must be pushed" comes *after* the puzzle part.

(that is scene 8, after about 1/3rd of the game length)
ah ... and there are some in #TheLostVikings, apparently ...
There it is. Not used before level 3-1, as far as I could see. Pretty perfect "better try pushing this" setup, although it could turn into a trap, killing another character or blocking you to your doom if you're not careful.
and of course, there's Mr. Nutz. Not much pushing here, but it became almost iconic to see him push that. And when you first come into the chair, you've just walked past a table, so it doesn't occur to you that you might be stopped this time and you start pushing it without realizing what will happen.
ah ? it was also featured in the last level of world 2, apparently. (#genesis version seems to lack colors :-/ )
