Update: we’ve identified the root cause of the issue. We expect to fix it within a few days, in the meantime the app will be temporarily removed from the Play Store and App Store. For all users that already installed the latest version of the app, we recommend not trying to perform the update, as it risks the earbuds from entering this unresponsive state. For all users that are already affected: please reach out to CS, they will help you get a working pair of Fairbuds to enjoy asap!

A new version of the Android app has been approved by Google and published this morning. Please update your app, which then will also allow you to update your Fairbuds safely! EDIT: if you’re facing some app-connection issues (e.g. battery info not showing, EQ not working) after the firmware update, simply unpair your Fairbuds and re-pair them. This should do the trick! 🙂

@WeAreFairphone The companion app seems to be planned to go FOSS in the future, I hope it'll be free of proprietary dependencies, time will tell. Given the /e/OS partnership it likely won't need Google Play services to run. Waiting excitedly for the code :)

@SylvieLorxu Agreed on that these apps should be made available outside the Play Store. From some weeks of testing, I can confirm that the Fairbuds app for (then only) the Fairbuds XL worked on /e/OS – but the MyFairphone app only to a limited extent (no device infos available unless it runs on Fairphone OS). /u

EDIT/correction: The Fairbuds app was available independently of the presence of Fairbuds XL nor Fairbuds, didn't need to get it extracted by someone else then.

@WeAreFairphone this is amazing. I just threw out some zolo earbuds the other day because a membrane was broken on one side, and the battery was no longer holding anything.

Nice concept, I might consider buying a pair, though I don't really like the models with changeable tips -- they always seem to get stuck in my ears after removing the devices themselves.
