I finally made a purchase I’ve wobbled on for several years…. Monster Hunter 3U for the 3DS 🥰.

I returned to the series at the end of 4U, before they announced Generations and have never played any of the 3rd gen games.

I’m looking forward to underwater combat and some fun monsters I’ve never fought and hope to post progress here as I slowly make it.

(Yes, I can emulate it, but I don’t wanna right now. I will eventually play it in HD 😆)

Post 2 - #MH3U - Just getting settled with the intro quests. I checked my charm table to make sure I’m not on a cursed one (I’m on table 4). Controls with the 3DS are coming back to me slowly; I don’t have a circle pad pro thing so it’s a lot of camera centering 😆. I expect to take on a large monster soon, but for now I’m happy getting some jaggi gear and learning the intro map. #MonsterHunter

Post 3 - #MH3U - I’ve acquired some Jaggi gear after taking down a couple Great Jaggi. I’m playing longsword, looking forward to getting aggressive then fade slashing away. Camera and controls came back quickly, but still adjusting to underwater stuff. I’ll make my way through 2⭐️ which is already a lot more engaging than 1⭐️ #MonsterHunter

Post 4 - #MH3U - 2⭐️ Village is done and I’m now the ‘minion’ of a friend-shaped shakalaka. I had fun fighting Great Jaggi and Arzuros and exploring the Sandy Plains (I had only played the MH Rise version before this). I need machalite ore for some new weapon upgrades. #MonsterHunter #Gaming #3DS

Post 5 - #MH3U - 3 star village is functionally complete. Qurupeco 🎶 is great, much better than Kut Ku 🐦 for where it’s at. Royal Ludroth 🧽 is one I’ve fought a lot, but the underwater battle is brand new and a challenge. Barroth 🚂 is so much more intimidating than in #MHWorld and a fun one. Next update will be after Gobul 🎣 that I’ve never fought before and I expect to be quite the underwater challenge. #MonsterHunter #Gaming #3DS

Post 6 - #MH3U - 🙃 10-ish hours into the game before realizing the longsword has spirit levels and not just the gauge 🤦🏻‍♂️ I’ve been playing #MHFU style longsword this whole time 😆 definitely looking forward to ramping up to red and pounding on monsters #MonsterHunter #Gaming #3DS

Post 7 - #MH3U - Gobul! I wouldn’t call the fight ‘fun’, but it was really interesting. I fought it a couple times, and definitely find the underwater combat a struggle. For other monsters I really like focusing down breakable parts, but underwater I haven’t managed that control yet. I won’t be making any Gobul gear, but I enjoyed hunting it! Next, I’m going to detour to the hub before taking on 4⭐️ quests and the Tundra. #MonsterHunter #Gaming #3DS

Post 8 - #MH3U - I decided I needed some variety while heading to Port Tanzia and after a short grind I was able to make the Drowning Shaft longsword (pictured below) from Royal Ludroth. It didn’t take long into my first hunt with it (against Qurupeco) to be disappointed by the terrible sharpness 😔 I don’t wanna have to sharpen 8 times per quest to stay out of orange. #MonsterHunter #Gaming #3DS

Post 9 - #MH3U - STREAKING WITH BULLFANGOS - This is a 1⭐ event quest to kill a bunch of bullfangos, but I found some cool stuff to share. With longsword, after you build up spirit meter, you can do the spirit combo on rhenoplos faces to level up to red; they take a lot less damage on the face, so they won't die before the end of the combo. The voucher rewards are good for a special lance and gunlance too. #MonsterHunter #Gaming #3DS

Post 10 - #MH3U - Tundra is a new map that I'd never been on before! I'm still learning how it works, but I've had fun exploring. I've now fought Lagombi; I was really impressed by its intro cutscene, even if the monster itself isn't nearly as intimidating. I'm still grinding for new longswords and figuring out how resource points/Moga Woods/commodities really work. #MonsterHunter #Gaming #3DS

Post 13 - #MH3U - Varied progress: I was able to craft the Windeater and Wroggi swords and used the poison weapon to repel Lagi (easier than expected 😔) this opened up quests to fight Rathian and Gigginox and the real 4⭐️ urgent to defeat Lagi instead of repel. Resource points are scarce atm, not sure what to do besides free-hunting in Moga Woods #MonsterHunter #Gaming #3DS

Post 14 - #MH3U - Rathian is down! Classic fight, lots of fun. Cutting the tail is a satisfying as ever. Chainslaughter (longsword) does ⚡️ elemental damage, which was great against her. Post 16 - #MH3U - The Gigginox grind has been brutal, so I decided to give myself a makeover 🥰 Full Wroggi plus a ColdRes charm will grant immunity to both poison and the cold while looking like a stylish cowboy as the grind continues. #Nintendo #3DS #MonsterHunter #Capcom #Gaming

Post 17 - #MH3U - Looking back, 9 Gigginox hunts isn’t much of a grind, but I have the claws I need! This is the sword I’m aiming for; idk if it’s any good 🤷🏻‍♂️ but it looks sick as hell.

Post 18 - #MH3U - a little questing here and there is paying off; I have 3 new swords: gigginox poison, lagiacrus thunder, and an ice one. They all have pretty close to the same attack value so the element/status is important right now. #Gaming #MonsterHunter #Nintendo #3DS #RetroGaming

Post 19 - #MH3U new drip! Lagi dropped 2 plates, so I made the dang set! The horn only comes from the head break, so needed to farm it for a while.

Post 20 - #MH3U - so I, uh, bought a #WiiU and just got the DLC quests downloaded ahead of server shutdown. The #3DS save will still exist, but I’m planning to play on the big screen for a spell, probably with less weapon grinding #MonsterHunter #Gaming
