Back in 2012, when our eldest was a baby, I decided to buy a proper camera so our photos of her would be a little nicer than what 2012 phones could produce.

I bought a Nikon #d3300, which is an entry level #DSLR and I've been using it on and off since then. I quickly bought the Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 DX lens and it's been a great lens for everyday shots.

When you start a new hobby it's not always clear where you'll end up, and I didn't really have any thoughts on photography before buying a camera beyond the ambition to take "better photos".

But I quickly learned some thing:

1. I am not very good at landscape photography
2. I am decent at portrait photography
3. I don't want to carry around a huge zoom lens, the camera's big enough as it is
4. I don't want to (and can't afford to) spend a fortune on camera gear

This means that since 2012 I've been drifting more and more into shooting only with prime lenses, which have a fixed focal length like 35mm or 85mm.

@EvilCartyen Interesting thread.

I started with an #D3000 and a few years later I upgraded to an #D600 and then my life took a few turns, so I never used it much.

Could be fun to dust it off and see if I have the time.

@pmakholm

I mean, sometimes you have the time and energy and sometimes not.

I had a few years (after our 3rd was born) where I didn't have the headspace to do much photography, but I've been getting into it again the past 2-3 years.

Of course, upgrading from the d3300 to the d750 was massive, many things are much easier now, and I really dig the whole full frame thing. But if I'd been handed the d750 when I started out I would probably not have used it much, there are too many settings and so on for a beginner, I think.

I look forward to seeing your d600 shots :)
