I haven’t been on twitter in over a year now, intentionally. I’m curious, for those who still log on to Twitter from time to time or even on a daily basis, what’s it like over there now?

Seems like most of the infosec community has moved over to either this instance or another on mastodon, but every now and then I’ll see someone post a link to a tweet/thread on Twitter from someone I followed.

I’m curious to know if I logged back into twitter if I’d find anything of value, or if it’s pretty much all right wing fascists/nazis/christian nationalists now?

I actively use both, so I'd say you'd notice something new. #ElonMusk has allowed a vast number of bots onto the platform to boost dwindling numbers

A lot of folks now have additional accounts spread across #BlueSky and #Threads (not me). Less so on #Mastodon, which I'm trying to remedy

Back to the bots: most bots are nicknamed #BikiniBots because they use sex appeal to flog crypto or actual "virtual sex" ⤵

↪ I'd say about ~15%+ of new followers one has are these bots. But, there's still an awfull lot of good intel that gets posted

I'm now convinced that keeping #advertisers away from #Mastodon restricts revenue for instances that could upgrade their kit to handle a new influx of #Twitterati

Imagine if #ElonMusk suddenly has a system outage and VAST numbers of #twitterati sign up to all the other services and #Mastodon got just one third of them... ⤵

I hopped back on and it’s awful. I did see some folks posting a lot that I used to interact with regularly and who haven’t migrated, but for the most part, seemed like every 3rd post was an ad. Just an awful experience compared to what it used to be.

Elon really has ruined it. I guess our only hope is that something bad happens to him financially that forces him to sell and/or divest himself of what’s left of Twitter and whomever buys it restores most of what made it such a great place.

I can’t believe some of those people who literally slept on the floors in conference rooms or their office to try and please that petulant child.

@wvu @JSharp1436 yeah, for sure. So far I’m only seeing a few people still using Twitter that aren’t on masto or bsky that I want to stay in touch with. Otherwise the experience over there is really awful now.
