400,000 tons of grapes left on the vines last year! But California wine producers bought about the equivalent in imported wine to blend with local wine. They can mix up to 25% and still market it as "American" wine...

Something is broken!

Troubles mount for California wine grape growers

Struggling California vineyards are having to compete with bargain-basement wine prices from overseas growers, due to global oversupply.

@SabrosiaVit Well, there might be some issues like quality. But you know what...I think a lot of wineries have buried their heads in the sand. Climate Change + Health Concerns = Gonna Be A Lot of Things that Don't Work Out Like they Used To😁

There's a lot of "business as usual." It may not have gotten critical yet. But sometimes in Portugal it seemed like everyone and their cousin wanted to start a winery. And sell the wine how? That's gonna get worse.

@marksquires There's no doubt that market changes etc. are an issue, but when the grapes grown in California are not being harvested because companies are replacing it with cheaper imported wine, yet the wine can be sold as "American" seems a bit off to me...
