Last week I got a big, beautiful book from a member of the Kyushu Documentary Literature genre. It's not for sale. It's the culmination of 50 years of learning, writing, and working with a place (Toroku) and pollution (mainly arsenic, and water in general). #KawaharaKazuyuki's book has me going back to read #MatsudaRyuichi on #UenoHidenobu and writing in general. They all have me thinking of #TracyKidder and #TheGift as the #WritingStance.

Matsuda Ryuichi mentions Kawahara Kazuyuki and three rules of their 'teacher'師 a central figure of Kyushu Documentary Literature: Ueno Hidenobu. The examples illustrating the advice:
1. Fear not time 時間を惜しむな
2. Fear not money 金を惜しむな
3. Fear not life 命を惜しむな
come to mind as I read about funding Freedom Software. Ueno spent 10 years writing of a family in Okinawa. He borrowed $20,000(?) to go to Brazil and follow coal miners displaced from Chikuho region in Kyushu. Book made 25% of loan.
Ueno Hidenobu (or Eishin) may have lost money on his books, and didn't seem to be able to afford spending ten years on one theme (a family of poor coal miners in Okinawa).. But decades after his death, people established a stone monument in honor of his work!!
