#ListeningClub ahh the 'old school 'ardcore slowed down for drinkers' thing of Big Beat....
@ogili Many a night misspent dancing to this #ListeningClub

@Holette

I missed Big Beat Boutique's Concord heyday because of an intense relationship which involved a lot of smoke, and staying in bed. Annoying, but also not.

#ListeningClub

@Holette The one thing that did annoy me about it was lots of Indie-er than tho Brighton types who were previously very sniffy about rave/house/techno/etc leaping on it. *grumble*

#ListeningClub

@ogili @Holette we were old Concorde Big Beat Boutique core fanpeople, but mainly coz we were bored with going to the Zap club on a Friday and listening to 'progressive house' that was basically too minimal for anything other than being 5 pills up, as I recall, badly

#ListeningClub

@corin_ja @Holette

I can imagine it was *a lot* of fun tho. I went to a very hip Progressive House club in London once in the mid 90s, it was the most boring pose-y designer clothes and cocaine hipster night ever.

Did you ever go to Rob Lluis' Concord nights which were the sort of Big Beat pre-cursor

#ListeningClub

@ogili @Holette yeah, i think I have a couple of the mix CDs they used to give out from that night, although I could be mistaken. Probably.

@corin_ja @Holette

Just been trying to find if they're online anywhere and found this

*cough* I'm not sure what possessed me to wear red trousers that day

Brighton Subculture in the Mid-1990s Through Amazing Photos

Many people wished they could bring back a different kind of celebration from their time in Brighton in the 1990s where their favorite pubs ...

@ogili @corin_ja @Holette these were the CDs Tru Thoughts things, maybe not from the night you referenced tho

#ListeningClub

@corin_ja @Holette I now need to find out the name of said night. It's really bugging me now. They gave out cassettes. Which I think I did own a couple. But don't now.

@ogili @Holette I think I'm wrong, those CDs are from the Etch night at Concorde II which must've been 1998, 1999. Not the old Concorde I thing you were talking about which must've been 1994/95/96

#ListeningClub

@corin_ja @Holette

Shake Yer Wig, and later Heavy Vibes the night was called.

#ListeningClub

@ogili @corin_ja Shake yer Wig. I think I probably did.
@Holette @corin_ja I enjoyed that, a bit more edge than your average '90s Levis cords, adidas gazelles and goatee jazz funk night.

@ogili @Holette those old photos from 1994 are really giving me the feelz though. Time is a very odd thing.

#ListeningClub

@corin_ja @Holette yeah, isn't it. It feels like yesterday, but also a million years ago. Still, better to be old, than dead, and that's the only choice.
@corin_ja @ogili @Holette At this rate you'll have me looking through my gallery of photos from the early 90s again ...
@corin_ja @ogili @Holette Yep, there you go. Early-mid-90s alternative clubbing in York (mostly gothish nights, with a rock night at the end).

Scans of assorted photos (mostly taken with disposable cameras) from York in the 1990s - including clubs Afterlife (at the De Grey Rooms), Valediction (at the Bonding Warehouse), Toffs Rock Night (Toffs)

@SimonLandmine @ogili @Holette these are brilliant. I never took a camera at that time to a club or gig. Took a few disposable cameras to festivals but not really to more everyday things. Amazing

#ListeningClub

@corin_ja @ogili @Holette Those are scans from a combination of disposable party cameras and my 35mm SLR.
At some point I might run the negatives through a negative scanner now I have one.
@ogili @corin_ja @Holette A number of those shots look like shots of folk I knew in York at about that time, too. 😄 A lot of the ones in the Green Dragon and Prince George, it seems.
(Good to see assorted para boots, too.)
