I'm still confused on how to install #pmOS on my #librem5

#librem5 #purism #privacy #postmarketOS

@stu I"ve only used #PinePhone(Pro)'s but I imagine the process is basically the same.

Download image from website. ( postmarketos.org )
Extract. (I use Ark )
Write image to sdcard ( I use Balena Etcher )
Insert SD card and hold volume down button to boot from that rather than internal storage.
Follow onscreen prompts.

PS, I think @postmarketOS also requires you install #TowBoot first? It's an extra step but not hard. SImilar to what's above. Website is TowBoot.org iirc.

@Blort @stu @postmarketOS No, it's in fact quite different. See https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Purism_Librem5_(purism-librem5)

Also Tow-Boot is currently only a requirement on the PinePhone Pro.

@bart I installed pmbootstrap but it keeps not working

@Blort @postmarketOS

@stu @Blort @postmarketOS It's impossible to help without more info and Mastodon _really_ isn't the right platform for this. Please join our Matrix rooms (they're linked on the website) for actual help
@stu @bart @Blort @postmarketOS
I would second going through a chat room but when i did it the easiest option for me was download a prebuilt image from postmarketos website, download jumpdrive for the librem 5. Put librem 5 into its special flash mode, in the instructions on pmos, flash jumpdrive, then flash the pmos image through jumpdrive.
@stu When you are done and have used #postmarketos for a while on the #librem5, would you tell us how it compares? Until now I have only used #pureos on the #librem5. Though, I like #postmarketos on my #pinephone (not Pro) and wonder, if it's worth the hassle to install it on the #librem5 ? Over all, I'm pleased with #linuxonmobile . My biggest gripe is the battery life time. Having to charge the devices twice a day can become challenging.
@der_erpl I also have issues with battery too. I wish it was a bigger battery
