I do love seeing early chitchat and design concepts for the PlayStation 2 in 1998 and 9 issues of game mags. PSM's August 1999 issue has some neat artists impressions (and lovely design sketches!) of not only what the console might look like but also its peripherals and media.

The PS2 would be unveiled at the Tokyo Game Show in September of that year.

@SharkaBytes looks like some inspiration from the Dreamcast in some of those. That middle panel in the second image, is that suggesting use of MiniDiscs?

@ellieraeuk Ah, I can't remember the exact name of them now, but I remember reading in an old mag recently that at one point, Sony was considering a new proprietary media format that would have used smaller CDs, Game Cube style, that did use caddies. Think they would have topped out at a GB if I'm remembering correctly.

The sketches may be based on that format.

@ellieraeuk @SharkaBytes He pensado lo mismo de la Dreamcast, con sus cuatro puertos para mandos.

@SharkaBytes I like how unpredictable Sony’s design language is with major console revisions. I don’t think anyone ever predicts what they’d go for until it hits.

I love some of these ideas though.
