Today I learned some new (to me) acronyms #DEIA for #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #Accessibility and if you add #Belonging you get #DEIAB to me the "B" is for #BelovedCommunity
I'm a bit bummed today. I was talking with a coworker about press releases and how we'll have to scrub them of our #students last names and #callsigns to prevent #doxing. Trying to keep our #bipoc #LGBTQIA #hams safe in this hate filled world. I'm open to any ideas.
My #amateurradio #callsign is all over the place, license plates, hats, etc. It's a symbol of an accomplishment. I want our students to feel the same way about their callsigns. Why should they have to hide theirs, while the haters display theirs? 😡
@nrao_hamradio This is really sad, but also sadly not surprising. I wonder if enough of us like-minded hams in the community can be mentors to these folks as they particiapte in the hobby and buffer them from the hate. It would be great if there were an organized "ham ally" program of some sort.
@bud_t Brilliant! 💡 I like your thought process! Everyone's virtual and geographically dispersed... 🤔
@nrao_hamradio I think it could work with some organization and some kind of system. Allies could chat with their mentees on a sked, or join them on a net to introduce them, etc. Could be fun!

@nrao_hamradio

If any of you need to use radios in some way or are just looking for a safe network, you're all welcome to use the Pride Radio Network, which is a safe place for all #LGBTQIA #hams

With that shameless plug out of the way, the only thing we can do is contact our representatives and senators and beg them to create legislation that will allow us ham radio operators the option to hide our addresses from the FCC database and make the process to use our preferred names much easier.

@KJ7OMO @nrao_hamradio Additionally not make applications public except for commercial entities. Someone shouldn’t be able to use the FCC application history to find my dead name, address history, etc…

@FinnleyDolfin @nrao_hamradio

Indeed, that too! Sadly, my dead name is out there deep in the database and it sucks!

@FinnleyDolfin @KJ7OMO @nrao_hamradio For sure. Our identities should only be available in the event of abuse.

It should be like license plates. I can't just query a license plate database if someone flips me off (no matter how much I'd want to). This should be the same for HAMs.
