The cutoff of the copper supply is going to particularly painful to the west while we're undertaking this transition away from fossil fuels, but nothing we can't manage under the circumstances.

Didn't the Russians let prisoners out after 6 months in combat?
@mike805 Yes, for the most part - after 9 out of 10 recruited Russian prisoners were left dead or rotting on the battlefield.
@Norobiik I'm listening to an audiobook about the 1917 Russian revolution and the conditions sound eerily similar. Soldiers fed up with endless attrition warfare were a big part of the Bolshevik Revolution, after the initial overthrow of the czar did not produce the desired end of the war.
Either Russia or Ukraine could face a similar collapse. If it's Russia, some very dangerous people may inherit the Soviet nuclear arsenal. If Ukraine collapses, American power in the world is kaput.
