In a few days I'll be 60 years old, I remember maybe 10 when we lived normally. When I say normal, I mean we didn't have dictatorships, wars, inflation, hunger and poverty.
An ordinary, modest life, but peaceful, only about 10 years...
And the time I lived in Brooklyn was wonderful for me, but I was killed by nostalgia, I couldn't overcome it.

@dystopia I will also be 60 in November. I don’t remember ever feeling like the world is going to hell like I do now. There were probably bad times but I didn’t know it. Now it seems like dictators are in power in more places and the rich keep getting richer and the poor get poorer. Most politicians only care about whatever gives them the most money. I am still better off than many in the world but wonder how long it will last.

I think the pandemic has laid bare a lot.First of all,how much empathy has been lost,how easy it is to manipulate frightened people.
People have closed themselves in their microworlds, some intentionally,some as post-traumatic,and it all goes to the hands of a terribly small percentage of people with terribly great wealth to do what they want,not even for big money anymore.People are generally so impoverished that they settle for crumbs from the table.
This is hell already.

@dystopia you’re right it brought out the “you can’t tell me what to do” in people (wearing masks, vaccinations etc) so now everyone thinks they have the right to do whatever they want. You are very wise - it is hell already.

This is something that makes me very happy and sad at the same time. Weak helpless beings, animals, old people, homeless people, marginalized people...
I no longer have any great desires for myself, as you say, for now I have enough to live on, and I set aside everything I can for them. I don't go to shopping malls, I'm not a slave to trends, I'm not used to luxury and I don't need it, I'm happiest when I help someone, as much as I can.
