I just saw a tiktok with a guy explaining how to get rich in 2024.

"If you and your partner save just $270 a week.."

#poor #PoorPoor #Unemployment #JobSeeker #CostOfLivingCrisis #KillTheRich

@aby "...then you're already rich!"
@elStiko - literally what I was thinking..

@elStiko @aby this it.

If you have that much aside that you don't need to survive you're simply making the observation that you're already rich.

@aby the gulf between the rich and everyone else is so huge that an extra ~15k will not make a difference

@Dangerous_beans - his next tip was "then you'll have $27000 you can put down as a deposit on a $500k house!"

As though there are just $500k houses for sale that don't need a shit tonne of expensive work to make liveable, and as though putting a $27000 deposit on a property doesn't cost more than $27000 to do.

@aby step 1: save money while renting
Step 2: buy house
Step 3:...
Step 4: be rich?

I think step 0 is also "be rich"

@Dangerous_beans @aby
-3. Have rich parents who have a granny flat and adore having you around
-2. Be put through fancy education, fed and housed through the process.
-1. Go backpacking through Europe until your RMs wear through, go back home to no job
0. "Start with nothing"
1. Pull self up by bootstraps
2. See how easy it is???

@aby Young people and their understanding of the world are normally excellent and I hate when people talk shit on them *however* this sounds exactly what I would have told you if you'd asked how to get rich when I was 9-12.

Just old enough to have an understanding of how money moves around but way too young to have any understanding of it systemically *works* (fucks people).

@aby "how to get rich" *explains the concept of having more income than what you need to survive*
