This classic how-do-you-roll-a-cable chart is still darn accurate.

@amyengineer Bonus points if you "twirl" your fingers while coiling to take advantage of the "natural curl" of the cable.
@amyengineer apparently I'm a mass murderer lol
@gminks lol! Somehow I have some of all of these...thinking I might need to up my meds... πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
@amyengineer Alternating half twist, although the schizophrenic method achieves the same end, that is, keeping the twists out so it runs free.

@amyengineer @amyengineer well, normal until you get to the end, then you spiral the loose end around the bundle, terminating through the mass so the ends don't dangle loose.

You carry cordage for charging your radio, phone, and GPS offroad motorcycle camping, you do that little something extra.

For ropes you go nautical though, you do those schizo. And no zip, twist, or velcro ties on anything. They don't last long.

@amyengineer I've recently adopted over-under, but most of my cables have memory and are stubborn about it. Time to throw them all out I guess.
@amyengineer Only healthy cables in these parts. All of those years as a professional musician, it’s all musicle memory now.
@amyengineer oh sure, the only people considered normal are the ones born with a silver velcro strap in their mouths, while the rest of us are mass murdering just to make ends neat
@amyengineer Am I a maniac if it bothers me that the otherwise "Healthy" coil is not bound between the two connectors? This prevents them wandering in between loops creating knots. #technician
@amyengineer I go thru different phases between when I start sorting my stuff and when I'm done (sort of) with that.
@amyengineer I recently learnt that "schizophrenic" is the right way to coil slack in power cables when in use, to avoid solenoid effects. (it's better to tangle the magnetic fields)
But only healthy sound cables allowed. Other forms are rerolled, even late at night!
@amyengineer I can’t answer without incriminating myself.
@amyengineer I always did the figure eight but have recently met people who were adamantly against it but I couldn't figure out why.. It's designed so that it doesn't tangle.. I don't get it
