This still gets me. What's in it for Glassdoor to do this? Is it to erode user trust? Or did Legal put them up to it? Or, here's a thought, did they change their business model so their customers are actually the companies being reviewed and blasted by former employees? Hmm.
@arstechnica sounds like a good opportunity for a new site to take their place to encourage public trust.
@arstechnica Checked my account before I'd even read the whole article, saw identifying info -- I'm pretty sure I didn't give them that picture, either -- and deleted.

@arstechnica

Apparently there's no real way to delete your account. Deactivating (closing) is not the same thing. You can REQUEST that they delete your account, but I'm extremely doubtful that they do even by your request.

@arstechnica
It’s even worse than you think.

You can’t close your account without logging in. And they won’t let you finish logging in without giving them tons more personal information.

(Update/correction: there IS a form elsewhere on the site you can fill out without being logged in, as Ars notes, here: https://help.glassdoor.com/s/privacyrequest?language=en_US

But still, the obvious route involves giving them more info up front... ick.)

@tphinney @arstechnica Which I did. I'm called "Delete", I came from a place Glassdoor thinks is called Délété in Haiti (it offered the autocomplete!) and my job was "Delete" for "Delete".
Then I deleted the account.
@yojimbo @tphinney @arstechnica Yup. Deleted with fake names, fake locations, fake anything and everything the asked for.

@yojimbo @tphinney @arstechnica I’m not saying there are no workarounds. But the process offends me.

(For the last minute of my account’s existence, I was based at McMurdo Station in Antarctica.)

@tphinney @arstechnica For others - this link should work without filling in the community crap. Love having to go into web inspector just to close an account.

@arstechnica This a horrendous breach of user trust. Makes perfect sense these days. 🤡
@arstechnica They must be cashing out before shutting down because this is terrible for their business model.
@arstechnica This is a shocking abuse of personal data! They're doxxing their own anonymous users and abusing the users themselves too.
@arstechnica time to re-brand to Broken Door.
@arstechnica I used a throwaway email and some random username. Didn't even add my role. Am I in trouble?
@arstechnica This article is misleading. The real names are added to account info visible only in the user's settings. Anonymously posted content such as bowl comments, salaries, reviews, etc. remain anonymous
@arstechnica hasn't this been going on for weeks if not months?
@arstechnica - A promise of anonymity is always a lie, sooner or later.
@arstechnica this seems like a pretty not bad idea
@arstechnica Why? This is just silly. Guess they don't want to retain their user base.
@arstechnica for real? what a great way for them to destroy their own service lol

@arstechnica
Delted my account. I expect a lot of others are today as well.
