My cognitively disabled son is spending impulsively - we have had to kill his debit card.

OTOH US disability rules mean he can't accumulate savings, so when he works near full-time he HAS to spend or we have to stuff money in the screwed up ABLE plan system. And neurotypicals spend money on, for example, cable TV, cigarettes, and the GOP.

We are trying to figure this out ... Experimenting with prepaid debit cards ...

@jgordon We've used Greenlight for our kids for several years and have been pretty happy with it, although it does have a $5/month fee.

We can enable/disable their cards, restrict spending by category or vendor, etc. It supports direct deposit as well, but we haven't used that ourselves.

Thank you! I think Greenlight will be our next stop. I actually had used it with kids when they were younger, but my other two didn't need it and it used to be very restrictive about what it could be used for. I think it's worth trying again for him
