"what if we replaced *people* with a computer facsimile that sucks ass, uses a billion gallons of water and doesn't work but is technically cheaper?"

- every CEO over the last 4 months

@ancient_catbus Starting with the CEO?

I can dream, can't I?

@ancient_catbus what if replaced each CEO with one of these things. I think we'd save a lot.
@ancient_catbus And for those things the computers can't do, use people at stupidly low pay but claim it is the computer thats doing it, artificial artificial intelligence. Oh hang on, Amazon already did that with Mturk.
@RosePuckey @ancient_catbus
Underpaid scammers actually make the Internet work, I'm pretty sure
@RnDanger @ancient_catbus Mturk was promoted as a way of making some extra cash, still is, the scammers are Amazon not the underpaid form fillers.
@RosePuckey @ancient_catbus
I didn't mean to be derogatory or flippant, i really think a lot of internet services we use are underpinned but a class of people that are constantly abused and they need to resort to scamming these billion dollar companies in order to survive.
@RosePuckey @ancient_catbus
But i agree on who's actually scamming
@RnDanger @ancient_catbus It's always the little people on low income who get scammed by the rich tax avoiding scum and their huge tax avoiding companies.

@ancient_catbus

How badly we husband resources is a mark of our childishness.

Grow up.

@ancient_catbus Let us make things clear. Applying AI does not take much power. It is the training that is a power hog. Once trained, a current desktop with an NVIDIA GPU is probably overpowered to replace many jobs..if not millions of them.
I have run a deep learning image processing task, in real time, on a Raspberry Pi. It took me days to train it using an NVIDIA GPU and Googles free Cloud TPUs.
@ancient_catbus feel like forcing the speaker to define ‘cheaper' is the way forward but I've always been an optimist.
@ancient_catbus it's astonishing how people have dived into this when the most basic tests show how inadequate it is.
