@hannu_ikonen That's...mildly traumatizing, and I mean that very literally. You got a 'reward' (something you wanted!) via basically accidentally profiting (through no desire or plans of your own) due to harm of others, because of a terribly rigged and fucked up system.
That just seems..yikes.
Look, I'm (genuinely!) very happy for you paying it off, and having that hurdle in the past. It's just...that's got to be a lot of kind of emotional overhead.
@hannu_ikonen Even if it had been Protestant work ethic, that would still be awful, from experience, because of what it demands you put yourself through to get there, making you accept self-destruction in exchange for a promise of restored independence that is contingent on years of mostly uninterrupted good luck. It’s meant to turn you bitter and turn you on your juniors - ‘if I did it, so will you.’
The arbitrary bullshit of it aside, I’m glad you have a reprieve. And trees.
