Lawrence on what they don’t tell you about the Dump Biden ‘fantasy’

Pundits suggest replacing President Biden as the Democratic nominee because they don’t understand the job of the presidency or how conventions work. MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell gives a history lesson in governing in the age of television.

@GottaLaff

Thanks Laffy! In a nutshell, it's not going to happen.

So the choice is going to be between Biden, whatever your opinion if him, and a criminal conman rapist lunatic hell bent on destroying democracy.

Understand some people may not be happy about this choice, but that's what the alternatives will be.

@mastodonmigration @GottaLaff and based on this brief description, one cannot get lost in voting to keep the current administration in office. #VoteBlueForDemocracy #VoteBlue2024
@mastodonmigration @GottaLaff Unfortunately, that is not how they see it. For them it is the old tired guy who eats ice cream versus the funny orange guy who says out loud what they were already thinking but afraid to say. Let's hope there are not enough of them.

@jredlund @GottaLaff

Feel like that is certainly true of some people, but there seems to be a sizable percentage of sincere zealots who are so wrapped up in certain issues that they are willing to ignore the potential implications of their brinksmanship strategy, and just refuse to confront the binary nature of the alternatives before us. Hoping these folks are reachable. Ironically, these are the ones whose professed beliefs are most at odds with electing a criminal rapist dictator wannabe.

@mastodonmigration @GottaLaff I don't know about those "professed beliefs." There is no democracy in the Bible. Kings, pharaohs, and emperors all the way down. Popular culture is awash in feudalism, from LotR to Game of Thrones, so that sort of hierarchy is familiar and made to look satisfying. Jesus said he was not here to be that kind of king, but the Christian right tends to ignore that fact. They forgive their own sinners, while persecuting the sins of others. It's selective Christianity.
@mastodonmigration @GottaLaff it is not choice of the date, seriously, not happy. What is wrong with Americans. Choice is obvious.

@GottaLaff I've been trying to add rebuttals and context posts to the flood of misleading posts from Bill Kristol on birdshite. But it's tiring and angering and probably useless since I am no one

He's been posting about dump Biden and crowing about the (flawed) NYT poll every half hour- literally flooding the feed to manipulate the algorithm

I don't know what better to do

@3x10to8mps Omg, F him.

And you’re not no one. You’re someone.

@GottaLaff Thank you I appreciate that so much :-)

But I have only a few hundred followers anywhere. My clarifications only get dozens of eyeballs and they need 1000s or more to counter one distortion. I wish there was a more efficient way 😖

@3x10to8mps I have 1000s of followers but most have 0 followers themselves, and also, only so many people see any given post at any given time.

I'm betting I'm not that widely read, even with 21,000 followers here.

@GottaLaff Understood. Makes sense. Do you ever schedule posts to repeat at certain times of day?
@3x10to8mps No, never. Everything I do here is spontaneous.
@GottaLaff I don't say this often, but this is a must see. Among other things it gives a crucial historical perspective to chaotic party conventions. People may not remember what happened in 1968 in Chicago. Anyone who doesn't should familiarize themselves with it, and see how Dems essentially elected Nixon.
@Barbramon1 @GottaLaff I’d recommend Norman Mailer’s “Miami and the Siege of Chicago”.
@BeBo Thanks. Many great books and films on the subject. We should never allow ourselves to forget.

@Barbramon1 @GottaLaff

I remember it well. I wasn’t there for the riots but I saw it on TV. No one remembers that Humphrey was gaining on Nixon toward the end of the election season. Had RFK not been assassinated, it would have been completely different. Somewhere during those years I lost all faith in the country & its society, which is probably why at this end of life I am a solitary hermit.

@NoctisEqui @GottaLaff I was young, too young to vote, but the scenes of that awful time remain with me to this day. It was terrifying, but I have not yet lost all faith. So many wonderful people in this country. I still think we can make a difference. Maybe I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one...
