Births in Japan hit record low as government warns crisis at ‘critical state’

Birthrate continues to fall as young people increasingly reluctant to have children due to bleak job prospects, cost of living and work culture

The Guardian

I'm starting to track the #PopulationCrash trends in #Japan, #China and #SouthKorea. Big implications not just for them but for us as well here in the #Philippines and the rest of #ASEAN.

Will also be including developments and breakthroughs in #ElderCare in the toot chain. It's going to be badly needed.

@Norobiik All over the world, stopping population growth has proven easier than starting it back up again.

The good news: we used to think the future would have harsh, nasty measures to stop population growth.

It actually needs positive, benevolent measures to enable population replacement.

Many people feel like there is no future worth living in, and nothing ahead but more work, so why reproduce? That has to change.

Most of the work people do instead of reproducing, doesn't need to be done.

@mike805 I agree. The scary thing about the current situation is that these three countries are huge critical economic engines for the world economy. And now they're running out of gas, all at the same time.

@Norobiik In the old days, the state guaranteed military security. The economy produced financial value. The church created social value.

Now we have gone to the extreme of creating financial value at the expense of both security and social value.

With a shortage of social value - everything from extended family childcare to attractive buildings and public spaces - a lot of people just don't see the point. And when everything has to be paid for with cash, they can't afford it either.
