@saiki Sollte #btrfs mal nicht der neue Star am Linuxhimmel werden? Besser als #ext3 / #ext4 ? Das schaut mir nicht so aus.

Keine Ahnung, hab das irgendwie aus den Augen verloren, als ich dank Arbeit vorrübergehend immer weniger direkt mit Linux zu tun hatte.

@sequundi ich nutze es für meine root und /home. Snapshots sind schon ziemlich geil. Aber Partitionen verkleinern der totale horror.

Es ist seit ein paar Jahren der default in #Fedora und seit ewigkeiten schon in #suselinux.

Ich bezweifle, dass btrfs jemals als in jeder Hinsicht "besser" als ext4 beworben wurde, denn das kann es nicht sein.

Es macht einfach so viel mehr und das hat Kosten; sowohl in Performance als auch usability.

What exactly are you doing? Shrink or growth?

The latter should be instant.

The former can take a lot of time depending on how little slack you leave and how fragmented your free space is.

It has to move all the data behind the given offset in front of it.
The smaller the target size, the more data is has to move and the fewer space it has to put it.

If it has to "stuff" the data into a bunch of mostly full fragmented chunks, that can be very slow.

What does `iomon` say on drive activity?
