A panel from the #graphicNovel adaptation of @neilhimself
's book #Coraline drawn by P Craig Russell that immediately made me think of " #aiArt" 😏

(I hope I'm tagging the real Neil Gaiman and not an imitator... We gotta get him off mastodon.social if he is; half the smaller instances have already defederated from @mastodon.social for not having sufficient moderation 😅)

@neilhimself JUST saw the notification that Neil Himself boosted this lil post of mine, thanks for all you do, sir!!
@toplesstopics hey so as someone who's been here for a year but still feels like too much of a newb to join a smaller instance, is mastodon.online seen as a problem like .social is?
@ephesossh @toplesstopics .social is a problem? Why? That's where I am so maybe that's why I'm ignorant. I haven't heard from @neilhimself for a while now you mention it. His toots used to be quite prolific
@RainyDaze @toplesstopics
I'm not up on the full story, but it seems from other comments that it's had some lax moderation and that has made federating with other instances contentious at times
@ephesossh @RainyDaze @toplesstopics I disagree, it’s big so there’s lots of content. Some of it will offend some people but that doesn’t make it wrong. Unfortunately, there’s a gatekeeping issue with mastodon where some instances defederate at the drop of a hat. (The meme: An admin of your instance once favourited a post I’m uncomfortable with- you should change instance)
@ephesossh I don't see people on mastodon.online that often so I'm not sure, but with a name like that I would guess so. But if you do find a smaller instance to join, you can easily migrate your existing profile there! I would suggest making a public post typing out some of your interests/values and asking what smaller instances you might be welcome to, and I can boost it for you. :)

@toplesstopics @neilhimself

Gaiman’s main hang I know of these days is bluesky. Many have accounts from an earlier Twitter diaspora.

@Chancerubbage @toplesstopics @neilhimself

He's also quite active on Tumblr, has been for ages: https://neil-gaiman.tumblr.com/

Neil Gaiman

The one who wrote Coraline, and co-wrote the book of Good Omens and made the TV show, also the...

Tumblr
@Momerath
That's nice... Though I'm a lot more excited about him being active on a platform that ISN'T centralized and run by an autocratic authority that can decide unilaterally what content is bannable on the entire platform all at once. 😊
@Chancerubbage @neilhimself
@toplesstopics @Chancerubbage @neilhimself I do like the Fediverse for that very reason, myself.
@toplesstopics @neilhimself I've had a horrible thought. What was Coraline really eating when she joined the other parents for dinner?
