Mark has moved!@michael Hi Michael, I was reading your blogs about self hosting Mastodon (thanks for writing those!) and I saw you are using Hetzner as provider. What are your experiences with them? Reading some mixed things about them online.
Michael@coreice I’m very happy with them: I host 3 VPS with them, as well as my Nextcloud (https://blog.thms.uk/2024/01/moving-to-nextcloud)
Never had any issues with them, but as they are one of the cheapest they attract lots of people with bad intentions, and so are quite careful. I’d advise not to use a VPN for accessing them, and also I feel (without any real evidence, so this is highly speculative) that they appear to be - let’s say ‘more cautious’ than others with some countries (eg Russia, India, Pakistan) that they (rightly or wrongly) perceive to be high risk.
