Back in the day, there were a few #NorthDakota newspaper stories that reported on my 2007 #research (published in the #Sociology of Sport Journal) about student support for the UND “Fighting Sioux” nickname and logo. The most important fact was reported—that #NativeAmerican students were significantly less supportive of the nickname than white students—but a few other things were overlooked at the time.

(3) The longer #students spent at UND, the less they supported the "FS" nickname. Thus seniors were more critical of the practice than recently-enrolled #first-year students. In other words, even while controlling for the effects of #age, exposure to the nickname (including its contradictions and racist usage) eroded the more favorable views they held when they first #enrolled.
