i’m inspired to do more writing this year and I’m wondering what tips, apps, and tools you utilize for making it more comfortable / motivating / regular? Divulge your secrets!!!

I don’t currently have a laptop, and don’t necessarily want one. I’ve had my eye on other mobile writing situations; ideally, some kind of simple device for typing that doesn’t have other distractions (not an iPad, for instance). I’ve seen things like the #remarkable2 and #freewritetraveler
but they seem wildly expensive. Just wondering if anyone has come up with a simpler solution. #tech #raspberrypi #eink

@garrett you might like the Alphasmart Neo2. I bought one for $25 a few years ago, though prices have gone up a little I think. A year on a set of AA batteries and a fairly decent keyboard. https://www.inverse.com/input/reviews/the-alphasmart-neo-2-is-the-best-distraction-free-writing-tool-you-can-buy-right-now
This ancient keyboard is the best writing tool I've ever owned

Chunky, discontinued, and perfect for distraction-free writing.

@yangmusa I have seen folks mention those. What has your experience been like? how is it getting your writing off of it?
@garrett it works very well for pure, distraction-free, writing tasks. For me less well since I typically need to reference other docs and emails. There are 8 "files" where you can work on different documents. To transfer to a PC, simply connect a USB cable and press transmit. It's recognized as a USB keyboard, and the text it transferred as it it were being typed. It's faster than realtime typing, but not fast compared to simply copying a file on a modern computer.
@yangmusa You convinced me! (I also spoke to a close friend who swears by his). It is now en route.
@yangmusa @garrett Seems to be running ~$80-100 on eBay in the US right now.
@yangmusa I got my AlphaSmart Neo2 and I love it! I’ve been experimenting writing with my eyes closed too which is a different experience, but makes me less anxious about correcting mistakes right away and just focusing on what I want to say! Thanks for the recommendation!
