@Tim_Eagon

Yes. Quite a few times actually. I joined several Patreons, bought stuff on itch and drivethru and learned about a bunch of TTRPG stuff on here, a lot of it from the creators themselves. I’d say I spent several thousand Euros on stuff I learned about on here.

@Morgunin
Thankyou for supporting creators. 😀

@Tim_Eagon

I think that it's probably marginal for novels, and rpgs that don't have any existing audience.

But for art and creativity, the Fediverse is a tough home because of a very simplistic and inaccurate understanding that commerce == capitalism.

@Tim_Eagon Not quite yet but I've been in touch with someone from the fediverse to get something custom made (stationery), just waiting for me to finish my part of the customization right now.
@Tim_Eagon not yet but i probably will soon.

@Tim_Eagon I've not bought personally, but I have encouraged partner to do so and add, eg, audiobooks to the family library.

One of the blocks is that a lot of small creators are USA based. Being UK myself, that means anything physical needs shipping, which is either not available or expensive to both pocket and planet.

@JetlagJen @Tim_Eagon

I've bought digital music from creators here, I'm a middle aged man who lives alone so has little use for jewellery, furry art (or other artworks, as only me and and an occasional visiting cat would see them) - I don't play computer games -and there's the duty/customs hassles for physical goods, but many of my mutuals do like these things so I to boost for my friends in other countries..

@Tim_Eagon I'll always buy all the Neopets stickers that get shipped to EU for less than 10€

(the officially licensed merch doesn't get shipped to EU so us European Neopets players rely on fanmade merch)

@Tim_Eagon Umm...maybe? I don't buy a lot, but I have bought a few things in the last year plus that I've been on this toothsome site.
@Tim_Eagon Yes, some music creators added my account recently so I decided to buy some of their songs

@Tim_Eagon @gergolippai Not yet but here’s one who’s awesome, also a “botmaker” - creator of our beloved Endless Screaming- highly recommended

@Tim_Eagon @gergolippai Well actually come to think about it: I subscribed to newsletter (paying) -does it count?
@Tim_Eagon A plushie (with a second coming up) and a couple of videogames (including at least one crowdfunding campaign).
@Tim_Eagon I said yes, assuming that borrowing a library book pays authors royalties.

@deborahh @Tim_Eagon

there are authors who hate libraries and every last one of them is scum.

@Tim_Eagon no, but mainly because I'm barely scraping by as-is and can't afford to purchase things that aren't absolute necessities.
@Tim_Eagon Oh yeah I've bought a good variety of things made by people on here. Books, music, paintings, even a bag of coffee (was very good should buy again)
@Tim_Eagon I will share work from other creators here, and people here have purchased from me. I have sold more organically through Mastodon in one year, than I ever did through over 5 years of twitter, and instagram combined.
@Tim_Eagon yes in both directions. I have commissioned artists on Fedi and (over on my other account) successfully hocked my wares on Fedi.
@Tim_Eagon sadly not yet, as i'm myself a creator who barely stays afloat given my circumstances, but i do my best to boost things that come across me

@Tim_Eagon oh yeah, those pretty t-shirts from @LaimesKudikis

@Tim_Eagon I spend money on people here all the time, probably more than I should. it’s a much more approachable market than the “candy store” model social media has now. Here feels more like a farmers market
@kayleeserenada @Tim_Eagon I agree, real people doing cool stuff will be in demand once generated contet starts bloating all areas of the internet.
@Tim_Eagon I follow a lot of indie publishers and lit mags so I've bought some cool books and magazines. physical and digital
@Tim_Eagon I wish I could answer, but I have the memory of a goldfish. 😆 Uh... probably? Maybe?
@Tim_Eagon this is more an "opportunity" thing for me. Like, there's stuff I've found and want, but I either haven't had the spare cash or the opportunity. So I just tell everyone I know who might also be interested.

@Tim_Eagon

Literally have a commission for a Battletech painting (which turned into a triptych) in progress right now from @BenHigbie

Oh, also bought some printing services from @awooprints, who are fantastic quality, speed, and service.

@Tim_Eagon I've never been a sticker collector but when I bought a laptop last year I decided I was going to buy stickers from everyone on here I regularly talked to who had stickers so I could be like "this one is from my friend x" and I'm really happy I did. Should probably go looking for more soon.
@Tim_Eagon you’re asking if I bought anything through Mastadon. Yes. Earrings, I believe. I’d add a picture, but I’m not sure. Maybe the beautiful green marble disk creations that are beautiful with my stone pendant. What I still want to buy is a #dragon mug made by someone in #wales. (@animelphabet) I tracked down her (?) site, but I think she does custom work. I like seeing things for sale here. It breaks up the feed.
@Tim_Eagon yes! I purchased some of my wife's Christmas presents from @Bymossypine
@Tim_Eagon And I've been even more pleased than I've expected, with the purchases I've made from artists on the Fedi.
@Tim_Eagon yes, I did. #WeDealInLead comes to my mind or the cool #osr adventure #Moldbrook
@Tim_Eagon Yes, I've purchased jewelery from both @skaly and @NoraReed . Excellent, in both cases.

@Tim_Eagon

Not specifically the fediverse, but historically I have purchased in conjunction with knowing them on other platforms.

@Tim_Eagon From writers, yes, although not directly from them.
@Tim_Eagon Yes! And I'll buy more! Mwahahahaha!
@Tim_Eagon ...I want to say yes, but I can't remember who or what it was now. Probably something from @aetataureate
@Tim_Eagon If it's cheap enough and I have a use for it, I'll try find something that interests me and buy, because I enjoy the act of spending, and it feels good to support a fellow fedizen.
@Tim_Eagon I think almost every TTRPG (and adventure/setting/supplement) I’ve bought in the last few months has been from people I see on here.
@Tim_Eagon @sashag No, but I have on Twitter in the olden days. It’s just because nothing I’m interested in has come up. Also most of what I see need to come from the us which would often more than double the price because of shipping and taxes.

@h5e @Tim_Eagon Don't talk to me about shipping and customs 🫠

The last dress from Palava (UK, not a small creator but a small brand of handmade fashion) did around 20€ shipping and 78€ customs.

@sashag @Tim_Eagon 78 in customs 😳
@h5e @Tim_Eagon 'Protective' customs fees for 'the local industry' for textiles and shoes (I have stories about having to open and declare shoe packages from the US at the customs office… 🫠).
@Tim_Eagon No, but I mostly buy basic stuff, like food. There's barely money for extra stuff, no matter if it's promoted on the fediverse, or elsewhere.
@Tim_Eagon yup. I've bought a few stickers and a coffee mug. I love the neat niche products I find from people on here.
@Tim_Eagon yes, jewellery from @NoraReed and an art commission by @SummerKnight
@Tim_Eagon
Kinda? I went on a gig of a band that posts of fedi
@Tim_Eagon No, and I don't really recommend anything, but I boost if I find it beautiful.
@Tim_Eagon Social media has replaced awards shortlists for book discovery for me. Authors I already like tell me when they have new books coming out, and they squee over authors I haven't discovered yet and I buy those books too and tend to be very happy with the results. "Authors at play on social media" is great promotion for my little market niche.

@Tim_Eagon

My "yes" should have an asterisk. I believe all of the purchases I have made due to posts on the #Fediverse were from creators I had purchased from previous to joining Mastadon.

@Tim_Eagon I have a hard time believing the results of this poll

@Tim_Eagon
Seems i missed the vote

My vote is "no", as in "not yet", but i VERY wish i could find artists and makers to commission for building suits and gear

@Tim_Eagon @fulanigirl Too late to vote but yes, and plan to again.
