A petition to reinstate Canadian funding to the UNRWA. This funding provides humanitarian aid to the majority of Palestinians in Gaza. It’s fucking awful that Canada has pulled this funding. Canada can’t pretend to be the world’s peacekeepers anymore. https://act.leadnow.ca/unrwa-funding-cm/ #petition #UNRWAFunding #Canada #Gaza

@Shanmonster

This link is NOT to a petition, but a letter-sending campaign which also harvests names, e-mails, postal codes, and optionally phone numbers.

While it may be with the best of intentions, it is misleading and misinforming.

@amgine I have received emails back from the politicians it was sent to.

@Shanmonster

Yes, quite likely! but a petition is something organized to collect signatures, which is then presented to politicians as a measure of local support.

Using leadnow.ca, they send an e-mail on your behalf to your representatives and/or officials. But you have given your name, email address, and postal code (and optional phone number, in this case) to a political action committee. And it is utterly unneccessary.

To exemplify:

<a href=mailto:[email protected]?subject="Example email link"&body="They could create an email link to your targeted representatives/officials [you would still need to provide a postal code,] which included the email message body. When you click it, it opens in your email client, all ready to send.

But they don't. They make you give your e-mail address, and send it for you, and save your metadata.">Click this</a> to see why it is unnecessary.
