neddyoTonight: first up, exotic esoteric tunes in unique locations are my bag, baby. Tokala, Shanir Blumenkranz et al at a place called the Center for Remembering and Sharing. Been a whole since I've seen Shanir, perhaps the best bassist (et al) you've never heard of. Almost definitely is. Didn't disappoint.
Then: free tickets about the only way I'll go to the Blue Note, but late Sunday set was comfortably half-full which made it semi-enjoyable (still the worst room in town). DJ Logic with killer band including Christian McBride (on electric), Robert Randolph (still electric) and a host of other Wetlands-era groove merchants. Definitely felt like the old days in Tribeca. Old days that are getting older and older.
