Happy Peanut Butter Day to all who celebrate.

I will be eating a peanut butter sandwich for lunch to celebrate.

Unfortunately, my daughter will not be as peanuts are a forbidden food at school. But should they be?

@cdnveggie what we really need is a big campaign to introduce peanuts and other potential allergens when kids are very young. Early exposure is key to avoiding allergies later.
@marcoshuerta @cdnveggie Again, I can only speak for myself, but peanut butter was one of the first solid foods I was given.

The only reason I'm still alive is because my father was a doctor and could intubate me on the spot before I could be taken to the hospital.

So early exposure is probably a good idea for screening and desensitization, but only in a medical environment for easy intervention in the event of strong reaction.

Even the metanalysis from 2019 admits that the evidence supporting early exposure is compelling but not conclusive, so doing such exposure in a medically-mediated fashion would also provide useful evidence one way or another in terms of population studies.
