Ooft. Ryan Gosling getting an Oscar nomination for Barbie, but Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie both missing out is a bit on the nose, eh?
@mstrkapowski @emilygorcenski This could possibly be worse than just being ignored?
@mstrkapowski There were better nominations in that category. But you go with your agenda.
@JimWoolfenden @mstrkapowski so your argument is women make better actors and whatnot?
@mstrkapowski @siracusa the Oscars is definitely a Mojo Dojo Casa House
@mstrkapowski Lord, it's Stallone getting the only nom for Creed all over again.
@mstrkapowski @imyke my exact response was, "what the actual f”….
@mstrkapowski
I'd have nominated America Ferrara just for her impassioned rant.
@violet I believe she has been nominated!
@mstrkapowski
Ah, she'd be a supporting actress rather than a lead. I haven't looked at the nominations.
@mstrkapowski @siracusa My wife just tells me this is because they got their Golden Globe. Gosling does not, so everything seems fair. 😅

@mstrkapowski

"Make a GOOD movie but not SO good you get nominated for an award...."

@mstrkapowski c'mon, don't be silly. She acted quiet well, but do you really think she should be nominated? REALLY???
@mstrkapowski In today's episode of Could You Have Missed the Point Any Harder...
@mstrkapowski Is it though? The categories face different levels of competition from other movies. What about Robbie's performance would rank it above the 5 nominees? What non-nominated roles should have ranked above Gosling's? If they formally ranked all performances but only the top 5 were eligible, how far down the rankings would be disrespectful of Robbie's performance? Would 6th place be unwarranted given the other nominees?
@mstrkapowski
The Academy has been trash for years 🤷🏻‍♂️
@AndorianSoup @mstrkapowski The minute Julia Roberts "won" for Pretty Woman it was over for me!!
@mstrkapowski Well, it certainly adds validity to the point that the movie had to make. 🙄
@mstrkapowski or, turn it around, were women lead actresses especially strong this year, and directors, meaning that they just lost out - while the male supporting actors were 'meh' so Gosling got in more easily?

@sarajw I can definitely see an argument there. My post was more a side eye at the irony of it when you consider some of the films messaging.

(And to be clear, I am glad both America Ferrera and Gosling were nominated because they were great in their respective roles)

[Edit to use the word I meant to write while I was being overwhelmed by notifications]

@mstrkapowski

Which of these films would you say Barbie is better than? (I haven't seen any of them)

@dodgytheories @mstrkapowski only watched Oppenheimer so can only say Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer was pretty messy.
@mstrkapowski @GossiTheDog America Ferrera was nominated in the sister category which Gosling was nominated and Greta was nominated for Best Writing
@mstrkapowski

That almost seems like intentional irony.
@mstrkapowski It makes sense because the movie was about Ken. 😂

@mstrkapowski

We're actually doing patriarchy very well... [lowers voice] ... we're just better at hiding it.

#BarbieMyBarbie #Barbie

@mstrkapowski Not really, his performance was exceptional in the movie. Margot was great, but I don't think "Oscars great".

@mstrkapowski

People once asked what the movie is about. Now they don't.

@mstrkapowski things that make you say wha…
@mstrkapowski patriarchy… and horses 🐴🤪
@mstrkapowski but for Margot Robbie (who was of course excellent) to be among the 5 available "best actress" nominees, she would have had to be nominated instead of Emma Stone, Lily Gladstone, Annette Benning, Carey Mulligan or Sandra Hüller, not instead of Gosling for "best supporting actor".
