@stroughtonsmith So Microsoft was able to build their Office suite to visionOS and Apple does not? 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️
@stroughtonsmith no native ms office on meta quest, though announced a year ago, but on avp on day one? Mark must be furious!

@hdort @stroughtonsmith to be fair, Microsoft already has AppKit and UIKit code bases. Probably much easier to port to visionOS.

Plus, there’s got to be a calculation that Vision Pro customers are more likely than Quest 3/Pro customers to be interested in pro apps. (Which makes Apple’s own app choices more puzzling.)

@chucker @stroughtonsmith MS Office has an Android port, however, it sounds like the tablet experience isn’t great. It actually might have been easier to port the iPad version to AVP than the Android version to Q3 🤷‍♂️
@markgurman the annoying thing is, these look better than their macOS counterparts. More native. More elegant.
@stroughtonsmith is there a way to tell what app you’re looking at? For example, is that excel or numbers?
@JoeRodricks @stroughtonsmith in this case, easy enough: Numbers doesn’t exist 😛
@JoeRodricks @stroughtonsmith Oh, that’s interesting - I hadn’t considered that before, without a title bar.
@stroughtonsmith to my eyes this looks more native to the platform than any of their other apps designed for Apple products.
@stroughtonsmith I swear, these alone would probably make me pull the trigger on a purchase.
@stroughtonsmith It really says something about the changing fortunes of the tech industry how the presence of these apps (Word and Excel in particular) could make or break a platform, but now when I see them I think, “oh, that’s kind of nice” and kind of mentally move on.
@jeff Its also a reminder of #Microsoft's long storied history with #Apple and the #Mac, from #Multiplan to graphical versions of #Word #Excel debuting first on Mac. Even #PowerPoint which was once a product of #Forethought was once Mac exclusive.
@stroughtonsmith We probably shouldn't hold our breath for a port of #Photoshop though.
