"I find it very hard to hate the man. I can’t summon the energy; it all feels too much like a sideshow. Elon Musk barely exists. He’s just the name we’ve given to a certain mass delusion. I can tell you who I do hate, though. After nearly seven hundred pages of warm dribble, I started to really, really hate Elon Musk’s biographer, Walter Isaacson" https://thepointmag.com/criticism/very-ordinary-men

I know that I’m supposed to hate Elon Musk.

@mathewi 💯 For his Jobsian effort as it is on Musks.
@maks @mathewi I listened to an interview with him, and the main thing I got is that he has an incredible inferiority complex.
@mathewi I don't actually hate him. He's just not worth the effort.
@mathewi as always @Migueldeicaza saw through Walter Isaacson a long time ago

@mathewi @Migueldeicaza omg this article is a much better bio than the actual book.

Also: “An atmosphere of total incuriosity suffuses the entire book”

@mathewi
"Surely intellectuals are, or at least ought to be, those people among whom nothing should trend?"
@mathewi well, that was harrowing. Nice work.

@mathewi There's plenty to hate about Musk, his various forms of bigotry and his pretense of being a philanthropist.

The biographer apparently did not review his grandfather in sufficient depth or criticism, which is significant given how influential the grandfather's ideology was upon Musk. Joshua Benton's article in The Atlantic dug deeper into the grandfather.

Elon Musk’s Anti-Semitic, Apartheid-Loving Grandfather

The billionaire has described his grandfather as a risk-taking adventurer. A closer read of history reveals something much darker.

@mathewi I enjoyed reading this so much.
@mathewi @carl I have shout out many times and I am not even half-way through reading it. Fucking hell!
@kevinteljeur @mathewi @carl As a column writer and a reviewer, Sam Kriss delivers vitriol like it's nobody 's business!
@mathewi of course musk is far worse and more dangerous, but the correct answer is that they’re both fetid garbage
@mathewi @dgoldsmith Jeeeez. This is the most brutal thing I’ve read since Adam Serwer’s takedown of Samuel Alito.
@inthehands @mathewi @dgoldsmith
Kurt Andersen on Bill Ackman is up there.
@msglincoln @mathewi @dgoldsmith Hadn’t read it, just found it, it’s good. Thank you.
