"Maybe we’ll get the interoperable shared, open social web that many of us have wanted for the last twenty plus years? Wilder things have happened."

Here's a *very* long post (by Tom Coates) on how #Threads / #Meta wants to be a part of the #fediverse:

(You don't have to be a fan of the platform or the company, but one thing's for sure: They're way too big to ignore.)

How Threads will integrate with the Fediverse – plasticbag.org

Threads using ActivityPub might be good for many of us.

At Mastodon, the only items that appear in our timeline are from accounts that we have selected ourselves. In our timeline, we will not see Thread's posts, unless we follow an account on Threads.

The same applies to our Local Timeline: only posts on our own instance

The negative effect of Threads joining might therefore be limited while the positive effect is that we can follow more accounts that we find interesting.

@paulschoe @dw_innovation that's a considered take on the situation. It will be interesting to see what happens over time - and if activitypub connection affects the ability for a corporate entity to control information as they do on monolithic platforms.

#OligarchADNetwork vs. #NoADs

🔮 The migration will mostly be FROM Threads to Mastodon if, at all. 🔮

#Enshittification vs #NotEnshittified

Luckily there is moderation built into the core of this #ActivityPub protocol to block the fraudster account types & it's Fraud As A Service Cult Members who try to infiltrate with their values of basic Fraud.

Meta is Fraud at its core business. Advertising is just a cover. CSAM is its main driver as well as being the number one as a disinformation source for per user targeting as a platform. Typical #COINTELPRO shit. See The Civil Rights movement as well as The Church Committee here for background. Summary is the same but just add more agencies these days.

Client side the main manipulation point on the fediverse but that is mostly on identification per instance and account which the administrators do a very good job in shielding most users from but varies per server. Server side manipulation does exist but varies per instance also.

Don't get me started on the #StateSponsoredMalware they use which Germany kicked out from #GammaGroup's #FinFisher where it took 10+ years to get this #malware company out of Germany. It's still a HUGE problem here in America since 2011 and made worse since 2015 codebase for the client and server leaked.
