My gf plays games like the Sims and such, mostly building stuff so I'm trying to get her to tryout Unreal Engine and create a nice world map and hopefully she has fun with it

If so, she wants to perhaps create the main maps for our RPG game so I can focus on the mechanics

Until now I've mostly used ready maps to save a load of time and get more game mechanics to work

For the main game "land" or world I was thinking of calling it "Mastodonia"

The idea is to publish it for free on Steam at some point and push updates as we go over time!

To be honest, I have no clue if Steam charges for a game to be listed and how much etc but that'll be a worry for later. Otherwise the price would be the absolute minimal of only covering the Steam costs but i want it to be free πŸ˜†

Also the focus is 1 main thing: FUN!

I don't care what big game studios do, I want a community build game with wishes from the players and not the studio!

One of the main reasons I got into this a while ago is the terrible gaming atmosphere these days

Micro transactions left and right, stupid paid DLCs, hyped up stuff that bugs like never before and i can go on and on

With many studios I feel like the bar these days is "just enough fun to let people pay" but I'm a little done with that

@stux

100 usd afaik

@stux Cool!
(why unreal tho)

@luana Seemed the best option a while back πŸ˜‰

Unity is more for mobile stuff, GoDot is not ready for me (UE quality) so UE was the best one

and it does really get some amazing results

@stux At least it’s not Unity I guess, but still from a company that can eventually say fuck you whenever they want
By quality you mean graphics and RT and stuff? That’s a nice to have indeed, and it’s easy to get great graphics on UE from what I’ve heard, but Godot has graphics as good as Unity I’d say. Also, a higher quality gpu renderer with rt is planned afaik

@luana Haha i know, i know

Epic seems reasonable still, and i kinda like their pricing scheme!

Also their rate of updates is really insane! So many major new tech in such a short time
