What would you get if you could mix a pheasant, a unicorn and a squeaky toy? Hopefully something as unique as the Horned Screamer! This weird bird from South America is actually a close relative of ducks, geese and swans. It lives a rather sedentary life feeding on water plants in well-vegetated marshes. Its distinctive horn is a long, white spine of cartilage that is loosely attached to the skull and grows continuously throughout its life, while often breaking at its tip. As for its call, as the name suggests, it is a very loud and repetitive echoing sound.
