I pride myself with having watched a number of really f*cked up movies in my lifetime, including: Martyrs, Cannibal Holocaust, Human Centipede, Beau is Afraid, Dogtooth, Visitor Q, Poughkeepsie Tapes, Pink Flamingos, Salò, and others. And every time I think: ok, now I’ve seen it all. There’s no way anyone can top that.

…Last night I watched Ken Russell’s “The Devils”.

Got me again.

Also worth checking out the Aldous Huxley book it's loosely based on, Martine.
@matthewclapham THAT Aldous Huxley?
@martinenyx
Yeah - The Devils of Loudun is his novelised account of the real-life witchcraft, heresy and convent orgy story from 17th century France. I think mass delirium from ergot poisoning in rye bread may also have been involved. Many years since I read it.
Another interesting thing about Russell's early films is that Glenda Jackson, though not in The Devils, went on to become a government minister, despite having troubled the UK censor with graphic on-screen depictions of sexuality.
