Another post box topper from the incredibly productive local mystery crochetier. This one looks like it was designed for New Year, although I only spotted it this morning.

@davidwilkins I've seen them in Ely, but here's one in Didsbury, spotted on Boxing Day. I've a feeling I've seen the Nativity before, but I don't know whether the maker takes them home and washes them ready for another year, or crochets them all from scratch!
@HarrietMonkhouse It seems to be quite a thing! I wonder what the origins of it are.
@davidwilkins I remember an event at Manchester Town Hall some years ago, where yarn-bombers crocheted women's faces for the men's statues.

Manchester Town Hall Yarn Bombed With Crocheted Masks

The municipal statues in Manchester's Town Hall only celebrate the achievements of historical men, so crafter Helen Davis and curator Jenny White adorned the male statues with crocheted masks of notable women accompanied by a written account of their achievements.

@HarrietMonkhouse Interesting - I’d never thought of crocheting as a campaigning/political activity before!
@davidwilkins @HarrietMonkhouse The time it takes to make this art and then to - just leave it to the elements. My internal crocheter is having a heart attack. This is so lovely though.
@CherryWanders @HarrietMonkhouse I know next to nothing about crochet and the wool/yarns used but I'm always amazed at how well these stand up to the weather, even after weeks outside.
@davidwilkins @HarrietMonkhouse they are likely acrylic yarn, the real story is how each of those little critters takes about an hour or more to create - that rabbit was 3 - 4 at least. Fabulous pieces of handmade art! It's so freaking cozy!
