I'm looking for a good #backup (and #restore!) solution for a homogeneous personal IT environment.

Machines I'd like to cover:
- MacBook Pro (M1)
- Lenovo laptop (#Windows 11)
- VPS (#Linux #NixOS)
- #HomeAssistant (Home Assistant OS)
- Android smartphones (optional)

A QNAP NAS should host the backups.

What are your recommendations?

@joschi I can wholeheartedly recoomend restic + resticprofile
@joschi do you want to backup all of this? Or party lie content? Maybe there are some scripting solutions or s.th. Because you have different systemtypes. Maybe you shlould think about s.th. like autopilot to seupt a preconfigured system and store the data (content) onto a cloud drive.
@Sascha Yes, I'd ideally back up all of these devices with the same backup solution to avoid sprawl and cognitive overhead on my end. I'm also aware that this might not be possible. 🙈
@joschi https://www.borgbackup.org/ - works reliable since years.
BorgBackup – Deduplicating archiver with compression and authenticated encryption

@joschi You may consider syncthing.
I don't know if HomeAssistent is supported, but all other OS should work fine.
@schrumpelnase
SyncThing is for real-time synchronization and not for generational backups, isn't it? 🤔
@joschi your totally right. Sorry, I messed up with duplicati - which 2nd version looked great in the beginning but seems to be a bit orphaned now. Sorry! I should focus... either for the new years party or mastodon - multi tasking works as shown - NOT.
