What a totally frustrating day.

Miserable weather with storms and lashing rain. Got caught in two road closures. Electricity supply has been cut all day, which also meant no 'phone calls or Internet access.

Power, and thus Internet, now restored, but, still no 'phone calls. I needed to make some online purchases, but, couldn't receive the verification codes by SMS.

Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!

As the A82 trunk road was closed for most of the day (accidents and fallen trees) the whole of south-west Scotland would have been cut-off. How did they cope? 😃

A note for any city folk thinking "what's the problem with road closures, just take another route".

In rural areas we have so few trunk roads that closures can mean alternative routes are enormously long. Not so long ago the A82 road was closed just two miles from my house. The suggested "diversion" route was back down the A82, across to the A9, up to Inverness, and then back down the A82 to my house. A distance of about two hundred miles. I dumped the car, and walked.

Electricity supply, Internet access and mobile 'phone reception have all returned to normal operation. Not entirely sure about all the roads.

It does feel like I've rejoined the 21st century (for now). 😃

@fitheach Glad to hear that! I hope you didn't have any other damage.

@wim_v12e
No, I was lucky, thanks. Some stuff blown about, but, that was it.

How are things in Glasgow?

@fitheach We were in the eye of the storm so it was just very wet, not very windy.

@wim_v12e
Funny, when people say they were in the eye of the storm, one imagines something really bad.

You'll be used to rain in Glasgow. 😃

@fitheach Well, you know the Neil Young song,

You are like a hurricane, there's calm in your eye

We're used to rain, doesn't mean we have to like it 😉
