She is a concierge doctor, going from town to town, up and down the dial. She has three snakes, one of which is not from earth, and the other two are highly genetically modified. And that sort of background material is present *everywhere*, because it *is* the future. One significant part of the plot involves using biofeedback to kill sperm motility, which is so effective an unexpected pregnancy is a *huge* surprise and scandal.
In case it's not clear, I loved this book.
I was able to let the author know several times, something which I am quite happy about.
Now... this book has snakes. Some people have phobias about snakes, and might want to avoid this book. (There is one scene where Our Protagonist is in a pit with more snake-like things than Indiana Jones is in Raiders.) I am not casting judgment -- I have my own phobia, and have to avoid some things because of it.
I am still sad about losing the author. She was a goodness.
