Something a bit different with a deep(ish) dive into the #DoctorWho #MissingAdventure - The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Christopher Bulis. A fun novel I remember enjoying when I read it which fully goes for Doctor Who as fantasy.

@deltaandthebannermen despite rallying against fantasy in Who, I quite enjoyed that book back in the day.
@Trevor29 Fantasy definitely has it's place in Doctor Who. The TARDIS is basically a magic door into another world (and like Narnia, it's impossibly big on the other side of the 'wardrobe'). The show is right to stick with 'sciencey reasons' buts, as the Doctor says, science that is sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from magic.
@deltaandthebannermen I just feel uncomfortable with magic and fantasy in Who. I remember how RTD brought back the Simms master with essentially a magic spell. I thought it was really poor and lazy writing imo.
@Trevor29 The Daemons is essentially magic (for all the Doctor's assertions about science). Jo's willingness to sacifice herself for the Doctor destroying Azal - that's not particularly sciencey. There's a lot of stuff in Doctor Who which is put down to 'psychic' stuff which may as well be magic. As I say, the show is right to not lean into it too heavily or without explanation but the explanations are often vague at best anyway.
