Think "The Addams Family" has overshadowed "The Munsters" in recent years. Wonder how many people below a certain age would recognize them at this point...

Heh, "Silver Age Munsters." Though there was a revival of the original series (in color) in the late 80s.

"Zombo" was the name of a "clown ghost" haunting an amusement park in "A Pup Named Scooby-Doo".

The "Munster on Munster action" line almost made me spill my coffee...

@dtgeek Pretty much. Twitter is pretty much in its death spiral, most online conversations I have are now on WhatsApp, and God bless Mastodon and BSky, but I don't think they'll ever hit the peaks Twitter did.

As for Facebook: basically only post episode links there now.

It's been a year since I stopped posting to Twitter, but I don't miss it. Check in sometimes to search tweets and/or see if former followers have gone elsewhere, but that's it.

Mastodon and BlueSky have somewhat filled the hole, but admit not quite the same. Mostly since the crowds I followed are split between both sites (the tech folk came here, the comic/animation crowd went to BlueSky), and both sites seem to dislike the other...

@dtgeek A shame. It would be nice to have everyone (minus the lesser aspects that Twitter now courts) under one roof, but that was pretty much going to be impossible.

@24panels ... I still have a Facebook page for my blog, to have at least one token mainstream social network. (Also my personal FB account for my family/online friends who won't use anything else.) Though doesn't get a lot of traffic. My Instagram page is basically dormant, and the AI news about it this week makes me disinclined to start posting photos to it again anytime soon. (Considering my dormant Pixelfed account as a replacement.)

@dtgeek You know, I never used Instagram. Granted, I rarely ever post images (at least of myself), so its appeal never really worked for me.

@24panels same here. My image/photo posting is mostly for holidays, but still thought having a place for posting images would be useful. Though Instagram's usefulness is pretty much zero now: no outside links in posts, algorithms throttling everything, and now the "we'll use your photos for AI" news.

@dtgeek Yeah. Honestly, the AI thing is likely going to kill a number of sites unless that becomes the default everywhere. Hopefully not.

@24panels As for Mastodon/BS: Mastodon seems to dislike BlueSky for: ideological reasons; fear of a repeat of Twitter; a less techie crowd; running its own federated standard; andlacking a lot of features.

Bluesky dislikes Mastodon being harder to use and sign up for; a lack of features like text-based search; harder to find one's friends (per federation); a perceived "stuffier" atmosphere and culture; and scolding about self-promotion, content warnings, etc.

@dtgeek Which is fair on both ends. I completely get the fear of Twitter 2.0, though from a business standpoint I can't seen anyone being eager to follow Musk down the path he's gone.

@24panels part of it's another Elon Musk ruining a site (there's no shortage of racist 1%-ers/fans of same,, unfortunately); part of it's just seeing how much capitalism/wealthy interests in general are degrading stuff (see Cory Doctorow dubbing platform decay with the crude but attention grabbing term "ensh*ttification").

@24panels it's sparking discussion again over the nature of DRM in digital media, particularly videos. (AKA "you don't really own 'bought' movies from iTunes/Amazon/etc.")

It's also drawing attention by some to the merits of physical media. Though DVDs/Blu-rays are starting to vanish more and more from stores---Best Buy plans to stop offering them in 2024...

@dtgeek The Digital Bits made a good point about Best Buy and how low their actual sales were that its actual impact on the current market is negligible. Still sucks to lose another place to buy from.

A few physical media concerns though: the aforementioned DVD/Bluray availability dwindling; not everything on streaming services is available on physical media (and if so, only on DVD/in standard definition, particularly for TV shows that were made/aired in HD); and people want to watch video on their phones/computers/etc. (which don't have optical drives), and ripping DVDs = an enthusiasts/geek thing apparently (*looks at my Jellyfin server*).

@24panels stateside, no more Best Buy leaves Amazon, Target, and Walmart to buy new DVDs from, plus a few regional big box stores. (And a few websites, like Gruv, Shout Factory or Criterion?) Though my last trip to Target showed a smallish selection of DVDs left...

I've been buying DVDs/BRs again this year (WB purging content from Max pushing me to do so), and ripping them to my computer for my own home media server. Though know that's niche/for "techies," nice to have my own "Netflix"...

Yeah, the Addams Family is 100% the pop culture winner of those two, which is fine. I don't think The Munsters will ever be on that level, which is fine. Better not to be oversaturated in pop culture.

As for Eddie: the (unlikely to happen) sequel story?

more like "almost spill on my smartphone" (as I was at work trying to make things livelier by listening to podcasts)...

But the Munsters could get their own Netflix series if they were more prominent... imagine: "Marilyn: The Series!" Maybe it won't be cancelled after two seasons for "reasons"!

@dtgeek There was an effort by Seth Myers to do the Munsters in Brooklyn as a show, but that seems to be dead. I'm sure Peacock will take another run at it within ten years.
