Friend: [daughter] needs a compass for scouts... Mr DIY should have right?
Me: well, if not, confirm Muslim goods store would have.
Friend: I didn't even think of that...

(Oklah, friend not Muslim mah, hahahah) #TootSEA #MuslimFedi #Malaysia #MYtoots

In the meantime my ass can be found at the Buddhist goods store so I can find incense and also lotus tea candle holders (they're very sturdy and great for blackouts since they don't get hot fast!)
@cendawanita i find this too funny, help ๐Ÿคฃ
@whatshisays gotta think creatively as a scout mmmkay??? ๐Ÿ˜‚
@[email protected] Haha, makes sense when you think of it! I used to host couchsurfers in #Viแป‡tNam and there were many who asked me which way it was to Mecca! I couldn't really help them.
@EllenInEdmonton hahhahaha well, these days there are apps but really it's just figuring out the compass ๐Ÿ˜‚
@[email protected] Yeah, I did a lot of my hosting in the days before smartphones were ubiquitous.
@EllenInEdmonton I feel v relatable about this - growing up pre-smartphones is literally the only reason this became a must-get item ๐Ÿ˜‚
@[email protected] Haha. Map applications became critical as soon as they were available. One of the very first apps I bought was SkyView, one that I use regularly to tell me where planets, constellations, and satellites are in the sky.
@EllenInEdmonton oh sounds neat! My nostalgia is strictly ground-based - my first job as a research assistant required interviewing a number of people... Got very good at reading maps via those city maps books ppl used to have!
@[email protected] Oh, I still love "real maps" but as somebody who visited a lot of Asian countries where I don't speak or read the language, paper maps were a lot less practical. Here in North America, I have paper maps/books for everywhere I want to visit so that I can see the "big picture", not just an arrow that takes up most of the screen.
@EllenInEdmonton oh yeah, a good map really gives a lot more input from just the tactile and overview ability! I miss maps... But I like not looking like I'm obviously not from there wherever that is, lol
