When you realise that something as avantgarde as BITCHES BREW once used to be a hit in the album charts, you start to acknowledge in what kind of culturally deserted landscape we currently live in.

#MilesDavis #Jazz

That album was Number 1 in the Jazz charts but more importantly it also peaked at Number 35 of the regular billboard charts.
Just had a look at the current billboard chart and eight of the Top 40 albums are by Taylor Swift!
I actually got no beef with the lady but it just underlines that there is a serious dearth of willingness by the public to experiment with listening to a wider range of music.
We have a bigger choice in front of us than ever before but still just pick the same old same old.
@holgerhaase You can't blame the public imho. People are deprived of alternatives (in so many areas of life, see alternative energies, see alternative mobility, see culture....) by rich people. ... who own and acquire even more of the infrastructure that pushes people softly into listening to taylor swift.
@torstentorsten Ah well, and that is where we differ. Streaming has its share of issues when it comes to payments to artists but no "rich people" managed to stop me in the last ten, twenty years to vastly expand my musical horizon courtesy of those platforms that carry way more tunes of all genres and countries than I could have otherwise been able to afford. There is such a thing as personal responsibility. We're not always victims of a big conglomerate. Sometimes the public taste just sucks.

@holgerhaase "no "rich people" managed to stop me in the last ten, twenty years to vastly expand my musical horizon "

That's because you are rich too. You have way more social, cultural, symbolic and actual capital (in #PierreBourdieus meaning) than at least 80% of the #public.
You can afford to have a taste. (in #ThorsteinVeblens meaning) Most people can not. And you profit from that. Just as I do.

@torstentorsten Kann dir leider jetzt nicht antworten, da ich mir deine EP anhöre. 😊
Equally that goes for Pet Sounds, not to forget.
