Musical Interlude: I'm a godless heathen, I freely admit it, But I do like some religious music. This is an old mountain hymn that I dearly love. Jean Ritchie wrote of singing this while caroling with her family in the Kentucky Appalachians. And about 15-20 years ago, my parents and I were invited to a Christmas hymn sing at a local old-order Mennonite church, and this was one of the hymns they did. (THAT was a fascinating cultural experience! I remember it fondly and would do it again in a heartbeat.) But most recordings I find these days are a modern arrangement that strikes me as cacophonous. It's nice to find an old-fashioned version.

I hear this and imagine snow-covered farms and tree-covered mountains...
