@tinebeest read your thoughts on ArtCologne after this NPR article on Nigeria’s Art X. What struck me about the NPR piece was the part about 30 galleries last year compared to 10 this year and the comments about how black portraiture isn’t selling the way it was. The art world (well, the whole world) seems to be retrenching — erasing hard won diversity gains— and we’re all the poorer for it

@inarticulatequilter Thank you for sharing that link! How interesting - and yet in some ways: how unsurprising. Markets are gonna market, I guess… Shame, because I do think there is so much more to African (and non-white) art than just representation of the physical body. As you say: we’re all the poorer for it.
