Oh look, an article written by someone who backs the Canadian Oil industry. Of course electric car mandates will fail. Ignore all the countries where this has worked succefully. Nothing to see here. #corporateGreed #canada #environment #electricvehicles #electriccars

Why government mandates on electric cars will not work

In 2021, only 66,800 fully electric vehicles were sold in Canada, a tiny 0.04 per cent of the vehicle stock

@paultk #ElectricCars won't save the plante, but #PublicTransport and #WalkableNeighbourhoods will...

Otherwise you just externalize and the change the emissions...

@kkarhan electric cars are not going to save us (the planet will be fine regardless). They're a key part in doing it in car dependant North America though. It will take many generations to fix the massive urban sprawl that make walkability and transit inpracticle for so many Americans. I bike for 90% of my trips in the city. I still want a car and my next one is going to be electric. The externality argument is complete right wing think tank bullshit and has been disproven multiple times.

@paultk well, that's bad solutionism:

Because this individualizes a systemic issue that shouldn't be individualized.

@kkarhan

You're not wrong. @notjustbikes isn't wrong either. But it's going to take a damn long time to fix in NA. As he himself has stated.

You're also missing the forest for the trees. Trucking and commercial transportation account for a significant portion of green house gases. The push for EVs will transform these sectors as well.

And I agree, it is systematic. So it's nice to see governments doing something about it. Attacking EVs is just nonsensical. They can be part of the solution.

@paultk @notjustbikes Yes and no - OFC EVs work great for shunting and last mile delivery since that's where it can play it's key strenghts: excellent stop & go efficiencies.

There's a reason why #DHL bought #CityScooter and why #Amazon funded #Rivmvian to make them an electric #Boxtruck...

@kkarhan @notjustbikes
I'm really lost as to what point you're trying to make now. It seems you're just anti BEV. We'll leave it at that.
