This is one huge and elegant pigeon! The Victoria Crowned Pigeon is endemic to Papua New Guinea. It is a distant relative of the dodo, another large ground-dwelling pigeon, and can grow to the size of a large chicken! It is gregarious, often travelling in pairs or small parties to forage the forest ground for food, flying up into the branches of trees when startled, or when roosting overnight. It typically feeds on fallen fruit, though seeds and invertebrates may occasionally supplement the diet.
